The Next Bethany Calgary
For 80 years, Bethany Calgary has been a place of care and connection in the inner-city neighbourhood of Hounsfield Heights–Briar Hill. After decades of service, the original care centre no longer meets modern standards or the evolving expectations of Calgarians.
In October 2024, Bethany broke ground on a bold new vision: a state-of-the-art care home that will redefine how aging and dementia care is experienced in Alberta. Supported by a significant investment from the Government of Alberta and a capital campaign led by Bethany Care Foundation, this once-in-a-generation redevelopment is anticipated to open in late 2027.
A New Standard for Continuing Care in Calgary
The new Bethany Calgary will be home to 420 residents in private suites with ensuite bathrooms, grouped into 14-room neighbourhoods within a vertical small-home model. Open kitchens and shared living spaces will foster belonging and connection, while gardens and courtyards will provide access to nature and fresh air.
At the heart of the community will be vibrant spaces including a bistro, art and music rooms, a theatre, a pub and welcoming gathering areas. Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to feel familiar and life-affirming—not institutional—creating a true home where residents can live with dignity, comfort and purpose.
Construction is taking place adjacent to the existing care home, which remains fully operational throughout the build.
