Jennifer McCue – President and Chief Executive Officer
Jennifer McCue is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Bethany Care Society, one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary, not–for–profit providers of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
Jennifer is a registered nurse, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration. Jennifer is a fellow of the Ivey Business School Community Shift program and holds the designation of Certified Health Executive (CHE) from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Prior to joining Bethany, Jennifer held several administrative and leadership roles throughout her healthcare career. During the Kananaskis G8 Summit, Jennifer worked with Health Canada, providing leadership for the planning and provision of health care to the G8 leaders and their families attending the Summit.
Jennifer has provided operational leadership for several multimillion-dollar healthcare projects and has expertise in working to create efficient operational environments for healthcare delivery. She has a passion for seniors’ care with a particular interest in building design for those living with dementia.
Jennifer is the past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Continuing Care Association and was recently re-elected to the board. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bethany Care Foundation. Jennifer is the past chair of the Southern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and former co-chair of the CCHL Chapter Advisory Committee and has served on several CCHL national committees. Jennifer served as a member of Minister’s Advisory Committee on Seniors Housing from 2020 -2021. Jennifer volunteers as a mentor for the University of Calgary, Scholars Academy Mentorship program. In January 2023 Jennifer was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal, recognizing her contributions to senior care in Alberta.
Nancy Hughes — Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer
Nancy Hughes is the Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer at Bethany Care Society, one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary, not-for-profit providers of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
She holds a Bachelor of Nursing degree and Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Calgary and a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Alberta.
With over 30 years of experience in healthcare, Nancy has a keen interest in the development and implementation of innovative service delivery models with a particular emphasis on access management, resource utilization and system and business process redesign. She has been involved in several large capital projects, including design and commissioning of the South Health Campus and of Bethany Riverview — Bethany Care Society’s newest purpose built centre for dementia care.
Connie Young — Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer
Connie Young, BComm, CPA, CGA, serves as the Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at Bethany Care Society.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Athabasca University, is a Chartered Professional Accountant, and is currently an MBA candidate at Carleton University.
Connie brings over 25 years of experience in a broad range of industries, including 17 years of progressive executive leadership experience in publicly funded institutions, including Mount Royal University and Olds College. She has a strong record as a trusted senior advisor to executive teams and governing boards on all aspects of financial management and corporate services. Connie is passionate about continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service provision, with a focus on integrated corporate service delivery.
Stuart Jaggard — Vice President, Special Projects
Stuart Jaggard joined Bethany Care Society as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer after spending 25 years in various senior leadership roles in Calgary. Stuart obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary in 1982 and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountant of Alberta.
His experience as a finance leader has ranged from small privately-owned companies to international organizations. Stuart has been instrumental in developing multi-year strategic plans incorporating key financing and operational initiatives, as well as key performance drivers and process optimization. He has considerable experience with organizational governance and risk, including initiating and developing enterprise risk management frameworks, which assesses an organizations’ business risks, mitigating controls and risk appetite. Stuart also has considerable leadership experience with the financing and treasury functions of capital-intensive businesses.
Dana Penner — Executive Director, Clinical Operations
Dana is the Executive Director, Clinical Operations at Bethany Care Society. Dana holds a Bachelor and Master of Nursing degrees from Athabasca University. In addition, she possesses national certification in Gerontological Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association.
With 25 years of experience in healthcare, Dana has focused her interests on the development and implementation of service delivery models that support optimal quality of life and quality of care for seniors and those with disabilities. She has been involved in the planning, commissioning and operation of several innovative specialty programs including the Alternate Level of Care and Young Adult Programs at Bethany Calgary and Bethany Riverview.
Dana is a past Member at Large of the Alberta Association on Gerontology, Provincial Board and former member of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta Registration Review Committee. Dana is currently volunteering in the role of Secretary for the Canadian College of Health Leaders – Southern Alberta Chapter.
Steven Friesen — Executive Director, Research and Innovation
Steven is Executive Director, Research and Innovation at Bethany Care Society, one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary, not-for-profit providers of health, housing and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Psychology) and Masters of Environmental Design from the University of Calgary.
He has led the development and implementation of Bethany’s Integrated Quality Management System and held research and evaluation positions in Alberta’s public and non-profit health care sector for more than 20 years. His professional experience includes a broad focus on health service and system research and program evaluation across primary care, continuing care and acute care settings. Steven’s graduate work in environmental design and subsequent research experience emphasize a special focus on the performance of the built environment and relationship to health and health care systems.
Amtul Siddiqui, BSc — Executive Director, Philanthropy, Bethany Care Foundation (BCF)
Amtul Siddiqui is the Executive Director of Bethany Care Foundation (BCF). BCF engages the community in support of Bethany Care Society, one of Western Canada’s largest voluntary not-for-profit providers of health, housing, and community services for seniors and persons with disabilities.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in accounting, Amtul interned at the Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. before moving to Canada to work, raise a family, and advocate for underserved individuals in the community. Prior to her work with BCF, Amtul championed causes close to her heart as the Senior Development Officer for the Calgary Health Foundation, Senior Manager of Advancement at Vivo, and Associate Director of Corporate Giving with the Canadian Red Cross, where she was the national fundraising lead for the 2016 Alberta fires and the 2013 Alberta Floods.
In addition to her role at Bethany, Amtul is Commission Vice-Chair for the Calgary Police Commission and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Association of Police Governance. Other volunteer roles have included the CIBC Run for the Cure, RCMP multicultural committee, Panorama Heights school, Vivo Board of Directors, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Cameron Barnes — Executive Director, Human Resources, Bethany Care Society
Cameron Barnes is the Executive Director of Human Resources at Bethany Care Society. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary and a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation.
Cam brings over 22 years of progressive, comprehensive leadership experience in human resources functions, including labour relations, workforce planning, leadership development, change management, and organizational design. Cam’s most recent management roles have been at the Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Airport Authority, and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc.
Cam is interested in developing key performance indicators for human resource services as a critical conduit to business strategy success. He is also a strong proponent of leading talent management programs to advance an organization’s mission. These competencies support and enhance Bethany’s strategic plan and our human resources initiatives and services. Cam understands that a culture of accountability, underpinned by kindness and compassion, attracts and retains individuals that are focused on supporting the care of Bethany’s residents and tenants.
